SEMINARS COMING UP!

Well everyone,

It’s time once again for the CSMA Winter Seminar in Moab, Utah. It will be Jan. 29 – 31. Yes, I know it is super bowl weekend, but no Broncos, so lets build saddles. Be prepared to eat good, work hard, shop for tools, and spread a little B.S. while your there. We will be finishing up our saddle project (we hope). We also will be hearing from Janice Wilson on balance ride saddles. And I am trying a new tooling contest this year (see rules on this page). Please feel free to contact me with your questions.

See ya soon,

Winter seminar quick draw contest

We are trying a new type of contest this year. It is known as a quick draw. Basically you will have around an hour and a half to tool a project that can be auctioned as a CSMA fund raiser. An example would be to tool a check book cover. After the auction the buyer can arrange for you to finish sewing in the lining or do what finishing up that needs to be done, or they can take it as is. Other projects that come to mind are spur straps, coasters, wallets, or just a square of tooled leather as a wall hanging. Use you imagination. The further the project is toward completion the better.

Rules:

*Bring your own cased leather.

*Patterns can be drawn on tracing paper but not transferred to the leather until the contest begins.

*Any type of tooling is allowed. i.e. floral, geometric, figures, or any combo.

*The entry fee is $10.00. All of which will go to pay the winners.

*All proceeds from the auction will go to the Pass It On program.

*Bring your own tools finish and marble slab.

*Judging: will be a peoples choice by ballot for the places of 1st , 2nd , and 3rd.

*Please don’t be afraid to enter even if you feel like you aren’t “good enough”. This is a good fundraiser that doubles as an educational experience for both contestant and spectator alike.

If you have questions please call Shane Deeter at

2009 Fall Seminar

October 8-10, 2010

Seminar Objectives:

To provide a forum so that saddle makers can learn,  discuss and compare techniques. Where they can learn about supplies, raw materials, tools, machinery, and their sources. Enjoy an atmosphere of sharing, co-operation, understanding and the building of friendships.

Speakers are selected so as to further the tradition of the sharing that CSMA established with its first seminar in November of  1992.   The focus will be directed toward saddle making history, changes made and how we do things today.
